FG donates drugs to Bauchi to curtail cholera outbreak

The federal government has donated drugs to the Bauchi State Government to curtail the spread of cholera outbreak in the state.
A press release issued by the Information Officer, Federal Ministry of Health, Markus Mangai, quoted the Director, Disease Surveillance, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Olubunmi Ojo, as saying that the drugs donated were part of the Federal Government’s intervention to bring the cholera outbreak under control.

Olubunmi, who led a rapid response team deployed by the Federal Ministry of Health, donated the drugs on behalf of the federal government to the Bauchi State government, while calling on the Bauchi state government to step up its surveillance activities and increase portable water supply to the people.
She further advised people of the state to observe and cultivate simple hygiene habit like washing hands before eating and keeping their environments clean.

Acting Chairman, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Yahaya Yarima, who received the drugs on behalf of the state government, thanked the federal government for the kind gesture, saying it would go a long way to ameliorate the condition of the patients.
He said since the outbreak of the cholera disease in the state, the state government had taken proactive measures to forestall further spread of the disease which include sensitisation and public enlightenment on the outbreak, chlorination of wells in the state, sinking of bore holes, visits to schools to sensitize the students on the cholera outbreak amongst others.
The drugs donated include Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), antibiotics, chlorine powder, iv fluids, iv infusion sets and drip sets.
