FG flags off grant disbursement for vulnerable in Nasarawa

The federal government, Friday, flagged off disbursement of cash grant for the vulnerable groups in Nasarawa state.

Speaking at the official flag off of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) Nasarawa state chapter, at the City Hall Lafia, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, said the intervention was to uplift the vulnerable nationwide.

The minister, who was represented by the Director, Disaster Management, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, urged beneficiaries to invest the money judiciously.

She explained that the grant and the GEEP were part of the federal government’s National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

“The cash grant for rural women is designed to provide one off grant for N20,000 to poorest and most vulnerable in rural areas and semi-Urban areas across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT,” she stated.

The minster explained that, “About 1,142,783 potential beneficiaries were registered across the 774 local government areas of the country, of which 25,000 potential beneficiaries were from Nasarawa state scattered across the 13 LGAs of the state.”

On his part, the Governor of Nasarawa state, Abdullahi Sule, thanked the President for giving the state opportunity.

He equally commended the ministry for exhibiting exemplary leadership which has contributed to the successes that the state have been recorded in the implementation of the various Intervention programme in the state.

Earlier, the focal person, NSIP in Nasarawa state, Imran Jibrin, “Since 2016, these programmes combined have supported about 20 million direct and indirect beneficiaries country-wide through a fair and transparent processes of implementations.”
