FG inaugurates Fusion Centre to curtail suicide bombing in North-east

Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, yesterday inaugurated an intelligence analysis centre, also known as Fusion Centre at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Abuja. According to him, the Centre is to tackle the desperate actions of Boko Haram terrorists in the North-east, who use under-age children, particularly girls, as suicide bombers. President Muhammadu Buhari, in November 2017, approved the setting up of intelligence Fusion Centre, for the purpose of gathering and sharing intelligence among the security agencies in the country.
The minister said the Centre would enhance intelligence analysis and enable the DIA to contribute “meaningfully to national security objective.” He said the federal government would continue to sustain its effort at building the capacity of security agencies and provided conducive environment for their personnel to carry out their duties. The minister commended the DIA for setting up the Centre and charged it to make the best use of the facility.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Air Vice Marshal Ernest Musa, said current and emerging security challenges in the country could only be tackled with new “unconventional thanking.”
The DIA said one of the cardinal missions of the agency was to enhance its operational capabilities through comprehensive adoption and utilisation of technology. He also said the agency would continue to sharpen its personnel skills, while employing and deploying those tools which serve as force multipliers.
