FG inaugurates Yobe river basin trustees

The Federal Government has inaugurated the newly reconstituted members of the Board of Trustees of the Hadejia Jama’are Komadugu Yobe Basin (HJKYB) Trust Fund in Abuja.
Inaugurating the 12 member board in Abuja recently, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu also announced the resuscitation of the basin’s trust fund.
Adamu explained that the six States of Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Jigawa, Plateau and Yobe should fashion out ways of finding solution to problems bedeviling the basin through creating the Trust Fund to address land and water resources management challenges.
He said: “In recognition of the critical role the Trust Fund was designed to play in complementing the activities of the Ministry for developing the Water Resources of the HJKYB, as well as the peculiar nature of the basin, I decided to embark on the process of resuscitating the Trust Fund.”
He commended the active support of the Governors of the six riparian states, who took up the challenge, came together and agreed to resuscitate the Trust Fund.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Musa Ibrahim said that the Summit of the Riparian State Governors held from 15th to 16th May, 2017 in Jos, Plateau State was to reawaken the Trust Fund which lay comatose for a long time.
Speaking further, he said “The Board of Trustees is reconstituted to enable the Trust Fund fulfill her mandate which will improve livelihood of the population in the Basin. This inauguration of Board of Trustees will mark the beginning of active intervention for the betterment of the teaming populace of theHadejia, Jama’are, Komadugu Yobe Basin.”
The new members of the board includes; Engr. Mailadi Yusuf Abba Misau and Alh. Umar Azare representing Bauchi State, Engr. Baba Isa Biu, and Dr. Shugba Umara Gana representing Borno State, Mr. Nuhu Musa Kazaure and Mohammed Adamu Danzamo representing Jigawa State and Yusuf Ado Kibiya and Engr. Atiku Abubakar Ahmed Dungurawa representing Kano State.
Others are Arc. Pam Dung Gyang and Chief Ndam Gambo representing Plateau State while Engr. Mohammed Mustapha and Mallam Gambomi Goni are representing Yobe State.
