FG offers amnesty to Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration is ready to give unconditional amnesty to Boko Haram terrorists willing to lay down arms.
The President said this this weekend while receiving the freed Dapchi schoolgirls, at the Presidential Vila, Abuja.
He said while efforts are being made to secure the release of every abducted citizen by the terrorists, the Federal Government is “ever ready to accept the unconditional laying down of arms by any member of the Boko Haram group, who show strong commitment in that regard.
” “We are ready to rehabilitate and integrate such repentant members into the larger society,” Buhari said.
The president charged security agents to ensure that there is no longer abduction of students abduction by the terrorists group, adding that security agents should not hesitate to deal with those seeking political gains from the abduction.
Don’t escalate crisis in Plateau – military warns journalists The military has warned journalists, especially those reporting in the area of responsibilities of Operation Safe Haven, to desist from reporting stories that could escalate tension that had hitherto been curtailed by the military.
The warning came as a result of a recent publication by the Punch Newspaper titled: “Plateau killings: Soldiers in Hilux van lead herdsmen and cow to graze on our farm land.
” OPSH is the military taskforce deployed to restore law and order in Plateau, Bauchi and Southern Kaduna.

Adam Umar said, in a statement, that the report is “ill motivated misleading, and capable of throwing the state into needless crisis.
” He said: “The report came to OPSH as a rude shock considering the fact that the taskforce has the mandate of protecting and restoring peace in the troubled zones of Plateau.
” “It is on record that the efforts of OPSH in maintaining peace on the Plateau among communities, gave reasons for the Defense headquarters to extend its mandate in some parts of Bauchi state and recently Southern kaduna.
“Before the recent face off between natives and Fulani’s, the taskforce had held series of town hall meetings between stakeholders of the warring communities, urging them to co-exist, how then can a reporter who felt because of his personal grudge with the OPSH took to his pen to write maliciously .
” “The report is ill motivated and has mislead his audience.
“The task force will also be forced to take legal action against such unprofessional reportage which is not only viewed as defamation of image, but also capable of throwing the state into needless crisis.
” Umar said the military taskforce who have also lost personnel in the process of maintaining peace in the troubled zones, especially in Plateau and Kaduna States.
He appealed to journalists in the country to be fair, objective and factual in the coverage of military activities.
