FG plans skills acquisition in Nigeria

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) recently graduated 200 youths on skills acquisition.

The youth were sponsored by the memeber representing Lafia/Obj Federal Constituency, Sariki Dahomey Abubakar in commemoration of this year’s World Skills Day in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

The Director General of ITF, Sir Joseph N. Ari disclosed that start up kits have already been procured for onword distribution to the graduates having completed their training.

He said the skills acquisition was the only option to curb the unemployment menace in the country .

The training , which lasted for three months , gulped N24milliom-N120,000 was expended on each of the 200 trainees during the programme which was carried out under the ITF/Federal Goverment Skills Empowerment Programme (FEGOSEP).

He said the federal government was considering cutting down the size of the federal civil service to a manageable number, hence it was now left for the skills acquisition sector take over the employer role previously played by government at all levels .

It would also be recalled that The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to train youths in the territory on necessary entrepreneurial and vocational skills.
