Hassan said the Federal Ministry of Works revealed to the Commission yesterday during its working visit that the 51-kilometre road which was awarded in 2010 to one Massers CGC Limited at the cost of N16.68 billion with initial completion date of September 19, 2012, had been re-awarded due to security challenges the company was facing in the heat of the Boko Haram insurgency.
He disclosed this in Maiduguri when led federal government high powered team representing the North-east zone on federal projects monitoring team on verification of selected federal projects sites across the zone.
Hassan said the exercise was part of the Commission’s fourth quarter nationwide physical verification of selected federal projects in the North-east zone.
The federal commissioner added that the commission’s verification exercise had revealed that the contract percentage completion was only at 22 per cent due to prevailing security challenges within the zone which led to the contractor to abandon the site in March 2012, following the death of two of its senior expatriate engineers.
