FG releases N1b for AFCON, Falcons, Flying Eagles


The Federal Government has released one billion naira to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to cover the country’s participation at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt as well as pay up the outstanding entitlements of both the Super Falcons and the Flying Eagles.


This cash came under the intervention fund as the NFF failed to submit the budget for the 2019 AFCON, officials said.
Ahead of the all-important clash against newcomers, Madagascar the NFF paid the Super Eagles their entitlements on Saturday, after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) granted the players’ wish of having the money in their accounts to cover their owed 22-day payments, our correspondent gathered .


The NFF also paid the Super Eagles bonuses for their wins over the Swallows of Burundi and the Syli Nationale of Guinea.
Unpaid bonuses are not new in Nigerian football. First, the Nigeria U-20 team embarked on a sit-in protest and refused to leave Poland after their elimination from the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
