FG renames FETHA Abakiliki after Ekwueme

Federal government has approved the renaming of the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

The official change of name was made known to journalists on Wednesday during the meeting of the Governing Board of the hospital in Abakaliki .

Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, Chairman of the board Alhaji (DR) Tijjani Ramalan explained that the change of name would attract infrastructural development by  Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and manpower capacity building of staff by  Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

He said: “It’s my pleasure to announce to the good people of Ebonyi state that the Federal Ministry of Health has approved the request by the Alex Ekwueme University, Ndufu – Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi state to have the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FEYHA) as its teaching hospital.

“The ministry has approved the change of name of this hospital to Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital with immediate effect.

“This development is a blessing from God the Almighty as a lot of benefits will come to the hospital in the area of funding infrastructural development by TETFUND and manpower capacity of staff by the PTDF”.

 The Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr Emeka Ogah who commended the federal government said “it is it is an elevation of the hospital with pure teaching status. With this the hospital is now well equipped to carry out its mandates as a teaching hospital”.
