FG restates commitment to promoting peace

Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, has reiterated federal government’s commitment to bring peace, and adequate security of lives and property in the country.
Maina stated this in Abuja at the inauguration of a 17-member National Steering Committee on the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) on UN Resolution 1325.

She said the document was a practical and operational tool for the participation of women at all levels of peace processes.
According to her, this will provide protection for those affected by armed conflicts, as well as inform them about government’s response to their plight.

She said: “Nigerian women lose their husbands, bread winners, children and their homes, while some flee from their houses during conflict and post conflict situation. Several of them suffer from gender based violence, sexual abuse, post traumatic stress disorders and other psychological consequences.”
The minister, therefore, the Committee to show greater commitment to the assignment by advising government, and ensuring that front-line security agencies and other stakeholders implemented the document.
