Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd), has said that the long-standing bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom would be beneficial to Nigeria in tackling terrorism and other cross-border crimes.
The Minister said this when the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Arkwright, paid him a visit in his office in Abuja, in continuation of bilateral talks between Nigeria and United Kingdom on regional cooperation.
Dambazau, according to statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the ministry’s Director of Press, Willie Bassey, emphasised the need for assistance in acquiring high technological equipment for Nigeria’s security agencies to combat terrorism and other security challenges facing the country, noting that Nigeria is open to collaborating with friendly nations in tackling insecurity.
Speaking earlier, Paul Arkwright said the talks were to consolidate the mutual cooperation existing between Nigeria and his country.
He expressed the commitment of the United Kingdom in deepening the relationship with the Ministry of Interior as it was undertaking reforms in enhancing effective security service delivery.
