FG seeks UNIDO assistance on gams feasibility study

The Federal Government has called on the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to assist Nigeria in getting an economically workable feasibility study that can promote the viability of the various dams in the country.

Speaking in Abuja while receiving the Director-General, UNIDO, Mr. Li Yon, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, acknowledged that majority of the dams in the country had potentials for hydro power, regretting however that these potentials had not been exploited for power generation.
The UNIDO boss was accompanied on the visit by Nigerian Ambassador to Austria, Abel AdelakunAyoko.

The Minister expressed belief that if the potentials from these dams were fully utilized, it would bring economic transformation to the nation, as many small scale businesses would spring up and communities would be industrialized.
He said it would also contribute towards the eradication of poverty in the nation.

He pledged his Ministry’s continued support for the organisation and its activities.
Earlier, the UNIDO boss, Li Yon, said he had come to rob mind with the Minister with a view to identifying critical areas of synergy and partnering.
“Industrialization is the backbone for any nation’s transformation”, he said.
He also acknowledged the long standing relationship between UNIDO and Nigeria especially, in the area of critical infrastructure
