FG should come up with more policies on land ownership-Adaralegbe

Mr Akintayo Adaralegbe is the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of T-Pumpy Concept Limited. In this interview with TOPE SUNDAY, Adaralegbe speaks on the housing sector, among other issues.

There is this allegation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that people are buying fake land. As a developer, how can Nigerians avoid buying fake land?

I think the best thing is to verify the title of the land. That is one of things we do. First, we will verify the title of the land from the relevant government offices because we also buy land before we resell.

It is a business cycle, so we make sure we verify what we are selling to the general public.

As a real estate developer, do you believe that Nigeria has up to 22million housing deficits?.

Actually, there are housing deficits in the country. But by the special grace of God, we are doing our best to ensure that the gap is bridged. On our part, we are starting another programme tagged: “ Rent to Own’’.

Under this programme, instead of renting a house, you can convert your rent to ownership status. This will also curb corruption because if you have a house on your head, you will not be thinking of committing a crime.

In what ways do you think the government can assist the housing sector?

It is through good policies on land ownership and it will help our citizens. If you own a land, you are like a 50 percent house owner.

I also want the government to come up with more policies that will make our citizens own land.
