The federal government has completed plan to deliver 12 million 50 kg bags of NPK fertilizer ahead of the 2020 farming season.
This was declared by the chairman, Presidential Taskforce on Fertilizer and Jigawa state governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Wednesday in Dutse while addressing the nation on plans by the federal government on this farming season.
He said already the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) has procured and imported enough phosphate and potash needed for the production of 12 million 50 kg bags of fertiliser while urea and fillers are being sourced locally.
The governor added that aside reduction on fertilizer’s prices by at least 50%, the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative has gained substantial foreign exchange savings for the country.
Badaru said “between 2016 to 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari has under the initiative delivered no fewer than 19 million 50 kg bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer from two blending plants across 13 states”.
He stated that “the PFI is yet to recover from constrains being faced during the lockdown imposed on intra states travels against the COVID-19 pandemic spread which were the challenges posed against evacuation and dispatch in Rivers state”.
He said despite the prevailing constrains, 19 out of the 29 participating blending plants across the country are active while other blenders are expected to ramp up after completing their security clearance and documentations.
