FG targets reduction of GHG emission, net-zero by 2060

In other to brace up the activities of the energy sector in Nigeria, Minister of Environment, Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, said, Nigeria has target to reduce its GHG emission by 20% unconditionally and 47% conditionally by 2030 and to net-zero by 2060.

He made this known while speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Edition of the National Energy Summit in Abuja.

Abdullahi added that this year’s theme “Green Economy and Sustainable Energy Development in Nigeria: Investment Opportunities and Challenges” has been carefully chosen in order to emphasize the connection between green economy, sustainable energy development and investments.

“it was resolved at the ECOWAS Regional Climate Strategy and the Need-Based Climate Finance Strategy which was held in April, 2022 that there is an urgent necessity for West African Countries to explore more Promising and more Viable renewable and new resources in tandem with its Renewable Energy Policy (EREP).
