FG to construct affordable houses for public servants

Chief Executive Officer, Federal Staff Housing Loan Board (FSLB), Mrs.
Hannatu Adamu Fika, has said that a plot of land has been located to the board by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration to enable them construct affordable houses for civil servants.
Fika disclosed this during the board meeting in Abuja, adding that a lot of public servant have indicated interest town the houses.
According to her, the review on the federal government staff housing loans act is presently at the National Assembly and she would brief members on how far the consideration of the Bill is going.
“Principally, parts of the houses that will be constructed will be given to members of the fish programme in view of the cash loan which is suppose to be given to them.
“We have received indication of interest from indigenous developers who have indicated that they are willing to construct these houses for public servant as long as their loan entitlements will be paid to them,” she stressed.
She stated that two estates in kuja are dedicated to the members of the fish programme.
“Following part of the activities towards the first October, the head of Civil Service of the Federation will be commissioning these two estates in addition to other estates that are dedicated to other public servants,” she added.
She stated that: “The partnership we have with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), is that a number of public servants have shown interest, about 75% of the list that has been considered by the Federal Mortgage Bank, North east, Benue and plateau state.
“It is only fair on us to consider them and any time from now, the bank is releasing fund for us to care for these group of civil servants.
“The law establishing the board also mandates us to give renovation loan to public servant and the capacities of the houses are 66 while the other is 120.
“However, it will be ideal if Federal Mortgage Bank and Federal staff housing loan board concentrate under this loan to give renovation loan of N1million to the civil servant.
“The board has also taken upon itself the role of adding more resources to show that government is concerned about the welfare of civil servants”.
