FG to construct modern grazing reserve in Bauchi


Federal government has expressed intention to construct a modern grazing reserve for animals rearers in Bauchi state.


Minister of agriculture and rural development Sabo Nanono made this known Saturday during his inspection visit to the proposed site for the reserve at Galambi village in Bauchi local government area of Bauchi state.


He said the proposed grazing reserve will provide grass for animals in abundance, have veterinary clinic, water and school for children of the rearers.


The minister explained that the gesture is aimed at boosting livestock’s production in the state in line with federal government’s policies on agriculture.


According to him, Nigeria is endowed with fertile land and livestock which if properly harnessed will revitalize the economy of the country, provide jobs and wealth to teeming citizens.


Also speaking, the state deputy governor Baba Tela who received the minister on behalf of Bauchi state government thanked the federal government for the gesture noting that the proposed site for the reserve has 7, 000 hectares of land.


He said the state government also gives priority attention to agricultural sector adding that it has procured adequate fertilizer and distributed them to farmers at subsidized prices in this year’s farming season.


He used the forum to appeal to the federal government to assist the families of the victims of recent boat mishap in kirfi local government area of the state where 38 people lost their lives.


Responding, some of the farmers and rearers who interacted with the minister called on the federal government to give them training on modern techniques so that they could get more profits from their occupation.
