Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, has assured of partnering the Body Enhancement Foundation, in its activities towards improving the health of women and children in the country.
In a statement by the ministry’s Chief Press Secretary, Babasaghir El-Mohammed, Maina stated this when members of the foundation led by its Founder, Modupe Ozolua, paid her office a courtesy visit in Abuja.
The minister, who commended the foundation for treating people with deformity, said the foundation’s activities fell under the ministry’s mandate of promoting and protecting the well-being and rights of vulnerable groups.
She assured of involving the foundation in the ministry’s programmes, starting with the Regular Meeting of the National Council on Women Affairs and Social Development coming up later, this year.
Earlier, Modupe Ozolua said the foundation sought partnership with the ministry because it has decided to commence more public charity programmes that would benefit the less privileged.
In addition, she said through the partnership, the ministry would also refer cases for corrective surgery and other humanitarian assistance that were in line with the foundation’s objectives.
She said the foundation also provides preventive care services such as HIV/AIDS testing, counselling, malaria testing and treatment, capacity building, women’s initiative programmes and immunisation.
Ozolua added that the foundation would commence bi-monthly hospital visits across the country to donate non-perishable foods, and medical supplies to both government and state-owned hospitals in rural areas from September this year.
