FG to Youths : We’re not happy with killings across Nigeria

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo has said the federal government is not happy with the persistent killings by suspected herdsmen across the country. He stated this while interacting with youths from across the country during the weekend at the Youth for Peace and Good Leadership International’s 3-day national peace and leadership summit at the National Christian Worship Centre, Abuja.

The vice president, who was represented by Reverend Isaac Peters Ambi, stated that “The Presidency is not happy with the killings. This is because peace is key to any development that will take place in this nation. As such, we are happy that the organisers of this programme decided to bring the youth together so that they will discuss on this crucial issue.” Prof Osibanjo added that “the government is doing a lot to bring the killings to an end. And we must also support the government to put an end to it. “We have issues in this nation that are actually dividing us; the issue of religion, the issue of ethnicity and political difference are dividing us.

But as young people, we must come together, discuss and suggest ways through which government will solve some of these problems. We must also tell the perpetrators that we will no longer agree to be used for crime,” he said. In his remarks, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Barr Boss Gida Mustapha, who was also represented by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Rt. Hon. Gideon Sammani, encouraged the youths to believe in the administration. According to him, “this is the administration that has focus for the development of the youths. You should grab the opportunities that this administration has put in place to build your capacity. The SGF noted that, “this government has prepared a lot of programmes for the youths; under the social investment programmes are the home grown feeding programme, N-power Scheme, and the Anchor Borrower Scheme amongst others. All are to meaningfully engage the youth and to prevent them from running after white collar jobs.” On the killings, he lamented that “People have no fear of God in them.

Th ank God that this is a generation of youths that know God. It is stated in the Bible, ‘Thou shall not kill’. In Islam also, the Muslims are commanded not to kill.” He urged them to be prepared and team up with Mr President to end the killings, saying government has directed the security agencies to fi sh the perpetrators out “and we belief and trust in God that the perpetrators will be arrested.”
