FG’s policies, programmes bringing more hardship to Nigerians, group alleges

National Coordinator All Workers Convergence, ( AWC ) Comrade Andrew Emelieze has disclosed that a mass  protest  is imminent in Nigeria to rescue the country from its present predicaments.

Emelieze in a statement he issued in Ibadan on Sunday also pointed out that this became necessary in view of the fact that policies and programmes of the Federal Government are bringing more hardship to Nigerians.

“The country has been moving from one confusion to the other, gradually and by installment, Nigerians are dying from avoidable death as a result of the poor governance. Our people are dying in the cold blood for lack of national security.

“It is obvious to us all that protest is inevitable in Nigeria now. The last seven years have been suffocating Nigerians. The policies and programmes of the government have been bringing more and more hardship to Nigerians. Things are on a daily basis getting worse; and our people are now regretting voting Buhari to power”, he said.

He continued: “It is in the general view of Nigerians that President Buhari has disappointed the masses. The country has been moving from one confusion to the other. Every policy and programme of this government has brought untold pains and unimaginable stress to the Nigerian people.

“Gradually and by installment, Nigerians are dying from an avoidable death as a result of the poor governance. Our people are dying in the cold blood for lack of national security. Many more are dying of poverty and in some cases suicide has been a way to escape the torture in Nigeria”.

He, however, called on Nigerians to rise and protest against naira / fuel scarcity, and the prevailing high cost of living.

“Say no to fuel price hike.  Say no to electricity tariff hike. Say no to the high cost of living. Say no to killings everywhere. The current fuel and naira scarcity is a proof of how well the present government is systematically and gradually strangulating Nigerians.  The major fear now is that for a government that has failed in all forms and ramifications conduct a successful general election?

“It is imperative for the NLC/TUC to rise up to the occasion and query this administration to end the gradual killings of Nigerians. Nigerians are left with no other option than mass protest until the government stops the mass sufferings of the Nigerian people.

“We are all feeling the pains, do not wait for anyone to mobilise you, organize from wherever you are. From Monday 30th January, let us swoop on the streets and refuse to be intimidated. This protest is a moral responsibility of everyone to rescue Nigeria. The AWC supports all calls by Nigerians and the civil society movement to begin nationwide protest immediately everywhere in Nigeria,” Emelieze said.
