Finally, Service chiefs appear before Reps; IGP, Buratai absent

The Chief of Defence Staff. Let. Gen Gabriel Olonishakin on Monday explained that the nation’s security forces holds the National Assembly in high esteem, and no reason to be disdainful..

He was responding to last Friday’s expression of disappointment by Speaker of the Representatives, Hon.Femi Gbajabimilla over the absence of the Service Chiefs at a security meeting.

The Defence Chief who was in attendance of the rescheduled meeting alongside the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar and other other security chiefs said that they sent in their representatives to the meeting because they were the heads of the operational bases of the  military’s counter Insurgency drive.

According to him, the security agencies had made appreciable progress in the war against terrorism, adding  that they will continue to do all they could in line with the military’s constitutional mandate.

However,  Inspector-General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar and the Chief of Army Staff Lt.Gen Tukurf Buratia who were absent on Monday were reported by the Speaker to have travelled out of Nigeria.
