Fintiri commences scholarship payment to 26,000 students

Governor  Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has commence payment of scholarships to over 26,000 Adamawa students schooling in all tertiary institutions across the country.

This is coming after seven years of non payment of scholarship by various administrations in the state. The payment commences after  successful completion of the verification exercise by the committee constituted by Fintiri administration to go round the tertiary institutions in the country to conduct comprehensive verification exercise to determine those that are eligible  to benefit from the scholarship scheme.

Addressing journalists Monday  in Yola, the national president of the National Union of Adamawa State Students(NUADSS), Comrade Gaddafi Hussaini, commended the governor for proving that he is a man of his words and  that he has the interest of the students and education at heart.

He further stated that over 26,000 students across the country will benefit from the scholarship as so many of them have already received their alerts while others are yet to do so due to network problems from their respective banks.

He stated further that  before the close of work Monday, they will also received the alert.

He said that  they have been pursuing this issue of scholarship for more than seven years but to no avail due to the indifference  of various administrations, especially the immediate past administration of former Governor Bindow who committed them to purchase the scholarship forms only to deny them the scholarship.

The student union president further attributed the failure of the administration to pay them their scholarship to the failure to give priority to the education sector and not necessarily because of lack of funds.

The students  assured the administration of their unflinching supports at all times and applauded the efforts of some stakeholders who have contributed in one way or the other to the actualisation of the dream.  They call on the government to sustain the effort annually.
