Firm donates over N7m malaria drugs to NGO

A pharmaceutical company, Afrique Biotech Ltd, has donated malaria drugs worth over N7 million to Ikeoha Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who received the drugs meant for children from three months to six years, on behalf of his NGO for onward distribution to hospitals and health facilities within Enugu-west Senatorial district, at the weekend, thanked the firm for the gesture.
He assured of continuous collaboration with the firm in many areas to better the lot of children and pledged equitable distribution of the drugs to hospitals within the zone.
While dedicating the drugs, the Anglican Bishop of Ebugu Diocese, Rt. Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma, recalled “some of the things” Ikeoha Foundation had been doing like award of scholarships, establishment of ICT centres, using MTN to send drugs to hospitals, including Anglican Hospitals, amongst others.
Bishop Chukwuma prayed for fast healing for children that would be treated with the drugs.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Afrique Biotech Ltd, Mr. Nelson Okenna Maduabuchi, said the donation was part of the company’s contributions in appreciation of what the Foundation was doing as “a credible NGO.”
In a remark, the Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President on Health, Dr. Diwe Ekweremadu, said the drug, Artecxin “is under Artemisinin based combination therapy (ACT) which provides most effective treatment for malaria.”
Ekweremadu noted that when adult education students in the area complained about various eye problems, the Foundation carried out comprehensive assessment of their eye sights after which appropriate eye glasses were provided for them free-of-charge.
He said the drugs would help increase access to anti-malaria drugs with guaranteed quality since they were supplied directly by the manufacturing company.
