The five participants, three male and two female, a statement by the US Embassy in Abuja said were selected from IDP camps in Benue and Abuja.

During their visit, the IDPs are expected to attend a football camp, receive English language and other classroom instruction to improve their prospects for academic success.

The IDPs selected for the U.S. State Department’s Sports Visitors program which targets hard-to-reach key youth as well as established athletes are: Rosemary James, Wisdom Abeh, John Dawa, Blessing Ayila, and Lorliam Terhemba Theophilus.

“These programs are designed to hone athletes’ on-the-field performance; to develop their capacity for leadership; and to foster a deeper understanding of American cultural and social life,” the statement said.
