Flood: Nasarawa govt distributes food, other relief materials to 45 communities in Awe, Nasarawa LGs


Nasarawa state government has distributed food and non food relief materials to over 45 communities ravaged by flood in Awe and Nasarawa local government areas of the state.
Executive secretary, Nasarawa state Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), Mr. Zakari Allumaga, disclosed this at a news briefing in Lafia while monitoring the distribution of the items.


He said the distribution was in compliance with governor Abdullahi Sule’s order for immediate distribution of relief materials to the flood victims during the governor’s visit to Nasarawa town following the recent flooding in the area.
Mr. Allumagas said the relief materials comprised of 44 trucks of 600 bags each of assorted grains and three trucks of non-food items such as building materials, children’s clothings, cooking utensils, mats among others .


He warned against diversion of the items.
The NASEMA boss said over 700 households were submerged in communities such as Ara, Udenyi Magaji, Ugya and Gude and Nasarawa town in Nasarawa local government, then Ribi and Gidan Soja in Awe local government area.
He also said the state government was working with traditional and community leaders to come up with a directive banning approval and sale of lands near riverine areas in the state.
