Flood submerges 36 communities in Lapai, sweeps away 2 boys in Minna

Two boys have reportedly been swept away by flood in gold mining site in Minna while 36 communities have been submerged in Lapai local government of Niger state.

The boys were said to be in the site popularly known as Zinary behind M I Wushishi Estate Minna where they were digging for gold before the flash floods that erupted from heavy rains on Monday.

In Lapai local government of the state, several houses were said to have been washed away by flood.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the President of the National Kakanda Development Association (NKADA), Ismaila Ayuba raised the alarm that over 36 communities in Lapai local government of Niger state have been submerged.

He said several houses, farm lands with valuables products and livestock worth millions of naira have also been washed away.

He lamented that people are currently leaving in camps and with relatives in Muye, Bina, Cheku, Kuchi, Yelwa and Dagbaje – Woro villages respectively.

He said, “We are deeply in pains as our herds of cattle, rice farms, maize and cassava crops have been completely destroyed.”

He sent a save our soul (sos) to the state government for urgent resettlement of the affy Kakanda villages 

“We appeal to our listening governor, Alhaji Sani Bello, to resettle the affected communities on the sites identified in Kolu and Madalla of Lapai LGA, Niger state. The resettlement, if achieved will bring lasting solution to flood disaster in the area,” he pleaded.
