FNAMEL, FG urge Nigerians to embrace farming

The Nigerian Agricultural Mechanization and Equipment Leasing (FNAMEL), in partnership with Federal Ministry of Agriculture has called on everyone to embarked on agriculture as to reduce poverty in the country.

This was contained in an interview with the delegations from Nigerian Agricultural Mechanization and Equipment Leasing who came to Springfield Agro Nigeria known as Mahindra Rise Tractor World in Kaduna.

Speaking at the interview, Prof Kennedy Ife, said the organisation is mobilising Agric Mechanisation Equipment Leasing/Rental Finance to enable thousands of Tractors to be deployed.

According to him, instead of having to spend about N15m to buy a tractor, you can spend N15k to N25k  per day for hiring tractors for a few days to access services of a tractor.

“It is easier for a farmer to access tractor serviced, he said.

The Ministry of Agric under Private Public Partnership (PPP) framework, as you can see the Agro Ecological Foodprint in Nigeria is shrinking through conflicts in NorthEast; Banditry in NorthWest and Herder-Farmer crisis in North Central a clash of 2 production systems – livestock vs Crops.

Speaking further that, a clear strategy is fresh land clearing, destomping of lands; land development and intense mechanisation for higher yield and productivity.

“The basic programme of setting up 1,200 Agric Equipment Hiring Enterprises (AEHEs) to cover the 774 LGAs.

“This targets their value chains, so as to be able to pay for the services of tractors at affordable rates, he added.

He commended Mahindra for investing into the country, adding that it won’t make sense to work and commonised your own, they have invested in the country, we have seen for ourselves and we are here to partner with Mahindra.

He emphasised that their partnership is to exploit to support employment in the country and ensure that farmers get the best out if it.

He further said, looking at the increase hills from two hectares to six hectares, from six  tones to seven tonnes, you make use of the tractor to deployment.

We commend all their efforts, we are to encourage them and support them to expand their capacities.

This is to increase the hectares and know the capacity of farmers in program that will enable them target their values change and make it comfortable for farmers to make enough money so as to service their tractors at affordable rate.
