FOIA ’ll promote transparency, accountability in government activities – FG 

The federal government has again reiterated needs for the public to have unfettered access to government records and information.

The Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Beatrice Jedy-Agba, gave the hint in Abuja Wednesday while giving a welcome remark at the commemoration of 12 years of implementing the Freedom of Information Act in Nigeria.

As at the last count, 90 MDAs have submitted their annual report

Agba at the occasion noted that FOIA imposed enormous responsibilities on the AGF office, adding that promoting transparency and accountability in the conduct of government business cannot be achieved without the strong support of the MDAs.

Represented by director, Solicitor Department, Mrs Gladys Odegbaro, the SGF added: “The AGF in compliance to Section 29(7)of FOI Act submits to the National Assembly an annual report on or before April 1st of each year.

“May I use this opportunity to encourage public institutions who are not compliant with the submission of their annual reports to begin to comply.”  

Mrs Ene Nwankpa, a non -state actor from Right to Know preached proactive disclosureand called  for prompt implementation and improved interactions.
