FONGON hails appointment of new Postmaster General

The Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations in Nigeria (FONGON), an umbrella body of all civil society groups and Non-Governmental Organizations in the country has applauded the recent appointment of Hon. Adepoju Adeyemi Sunday as the new Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Postal Service.

A satement issued Tuesday in Abuja, signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Wole Badmus, the body described the appointment as “a round peg in a round hole given the robust pedigree of Hon. Sunday Adepoju in Public service and legislative business.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently approved the appointment of the new Postmaster General, following the recommendations made by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

The new Postmaster General of NIPOST is appointed for an initial term of five years.

The statement said: “It is with utmost sense of exhultation that we welcome the appointment of the new PMG of the Federation. Our joy is premised on the fact that Hon. Sunday Adepoju has the intellectual wherewithal, legislative acumen and managerial capacity to successfully drive the Nigeria Postal Service to achieve it’s overall goal of providing affordable and reliable postal service Nationwide and world-wide with the aid of appropriate technology and a well-motivated workforce.

“Hon. Adepoju is a professional accountant and a former member of the Federal House of Representatives from 2011 – 2015 and 2015 – 2019, representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency. He was also with Lagos State Government as Senior Special Assistant on Account to the Former Governor of Lagos State,where he handled sensitive and special assignments with a track record of excellent performance.”

According to the forum, the modern day public management requires a deep experience in both Legislative and Executive workings of government and Hon. Sunday posses these Sterling qualities in abundance.

“No doubt, modern day Public leadership requires a profound grasp of both legislative and Executive workings of Government. These requirements are by no means possessed in abundance by the new PMG. This, of course prepared him adequately for this onerous task.”

The FONGON went further to appeal for full cooperation and support of members of staff of NIPOST for the new helmsman.

“We wish to enjoin members, staffs and management of the NIPOST to give maximum support to the new PMG and engage in constructive dialogue in order to further enhance their welfare and build a conducive working environment for the overall good of the organization.

“Conclusively, while congratulating the new PMG, we wish to reaffirm our strong confidence in his ability to deliver on his mandate of repositioning NIPOST for better productivity.”
