‘For a better country, let’s strive to meet youth’s needs’

 

A lawmaker representing Amuwo- Odofin constituency 1, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Ali-Macaulay has said the people in government must strive to meet the needs of the youths to have a better Nigeria. 

The chairman of House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development was admonishing public office holders while speaking with journalists after playing host to youths from her constituency at Lagos Assembly complex. 

In her remarks, she said; “you can see the reactions of the youths while ventilating their views on the state of things in our constituency and in the country generally, one take -home for me in all these is that, these people have needs we must strive to meet if we want a better and peaceful society”, she said.

Speaking further, she said, “I am just a lucky youth who is  fortunate to be here, many of these youths are graduates who are unemployed,  in some households you have like three or four of such unemployed graduates and they must survive 

So when they see you as a youth like them who now sits inside an air-conditioned office while they roam the streets, your position would make them sometimes question their existence, that is why we as public office holders must strive to meet their needs as it is within our power,” Hon. Mojisola admitted. 

On the issue of constituency office raised by one of the youth where they can always interface with the lawmaker, she added that she has a constituency office which she has been using since the campaign period. 

“I have my father’s house which I use as my constituency office, the same building I have been using since the campaign period, all I need do is to make it more functional “, she said.

She also harped on the imperative of educating the constituents to know the difference between the functions of the three arms of government less they continue to look forward to the lawmakers to perform the duties of the executive. 

The state lawmaker enumerated her achievements within the time she has spent in the house, ranging from education to women empowerment, youth development among others.
