Former Vice-President Ekwueme to be flown abroad – Family source

Uncertainty hovers on the deteriorating health of former Vice President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, who is under intensive medical care after he was said to have collapsed at his Enugu resident.
The 85-year-old Ekwueme was deputy to President Shehu Shagari between 1979 and 1983 under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN); and a founding member of the Peoples Democrat Party (PDP).
Our correspondent, who visited the house of the elder statesman and Memfys Specialist Hospital where he is in intensive care unit reports that people were trooping in and out of the hospital and in the house while some were in clusters discussing.
The former Vice President is likely to be flown out any moment for further treatment, a family source told this reporter in confidence, noting that he has not been feeling quite well these past months with family doctors always on hand to monitor his health condition.
The elder statesman was reported to have collapsed around 2 am last Saturday, at his residence in Independence Layout, Enugu when he went to retrieve something from a nearby table, as he unexpectedly buckled and passed out and was revived temporarily before rushing him to the intensive care unit of Memfys Hospital for neurosurgery.
