Forum hails Malami for ‘charging ex-EFCC investigator’

Abuja

A group of legal practitioners under the aegis of Nigerian Lawyers Renaissance Forum yesterday commended the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, for initiating criminal charges against an erstwhile investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Victor Uwajeh, before a Federal High Court, Abuja.
The group also called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to proceed with Uwajeh’s prosecution for alleged fraud, forgery and possession of false documents.
In a press statement, the group called on the AGF as the Chief Law officer of the Federation to follow up the matter in court to its logical conclusion.
It would be recalled that Uwajeh had alleged that the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial district had forged his WAEC certificate.
Uba promptly responded to the news by reporting the matter to the police who invited Uwajeh to present his own part of the case.
The case was reportedly investigated where it was discovered that the documents tendered by Uwajeh were allegedly Forged resulting into the serving of a criminal summons by the lGP on Uwajehl recently.
The criminal summons constituted a four-count charge before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, over allegations bordering on fraud, possession of false documents and forgery.
In its statement, signed by Barrister Prince Deji Atanda and Barrister Ike Tagbo, the Forum commended Senator Uba and the IGP for not bowing to Uwajeh’s tactics of alleged blackmail.
