Foundation earmarks N2.5bn for women, children empowerment

The Osasu Show Foundation has said it is targeting the sum of N2.5 billion empowerment programme for women and children in the next 10 years.

The executive director of the foundation, Osasu Igbinedion, daughter of the former governor of Edo state stated this on Tuesday in Abuja during the official unveiling of the project to the press.

The event, which had in attendance development partners from the United Nations, Amnesty International, Mercy Corps and others was also attended by the minister of women affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen as well as officials and parastatals under her ministry.

In her speech, Osasu said the foundation is committed to working with governments at all levels, development partners as well as civil society organisations to ensure that the lives of women and children are better in the next 10 years.

“We intend to establish useful connections, align resources and make ourselves readily available for any help, advice and assistance for the successful implementation of this programme.

“The Osasu Show Foundation recently launched its ‘Decade of Action’s campaign for Women and Girls Empowerment (WAGE) and Capacity Building Incubator (CBI) that will see to the implementation of projects in a minimum of seven states across the country and an investment of at least N2.5 billion.”

Speaking at the event, Dame Tallen called on meaningful persons in the society to ensure that the education of a girl-child should not be seen as a burden but a neccesity.

“The girl-child is not created to be in the kitchen while the boys are in school. Without a woman in the centre stage of the three cardinal principles of President Buhari’s agenda, nothing can be achieved. The economic empowerment of a woman means empowerment for the nation,” she said.
