Foundation empowers 1,000 widows in Osun

A Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, Wale Bolorunduro Foundation, on Tuesday began empowerment for 1,000 widows in the Osun East Senatorial District.
Speaking in Ilesa, the Chairman of the foundation, Dr. Wale Bolorunduro, who was a former Commissioner for Finance in the state, said that the gesture was part of efforts of the foundation to ensure good living of the people and reduce poverty rate in the state.
Bolorunduro who noted that the foundation had done free medical, scholarship for students among other beneficial programmes, assured that the geature would be extended to the ten local government in the Osun East.
“The aim of the foundation is to cater for women and children. It started in 2006 was fully incorporated in 2007 with myself, my wife, Mrs. Emiola Bolorunduro and my sister as the trustees.
“In the first year, we started with N20m. We have done many empowerment. We have provided free transportation for students. We are entering another phase which is providing empowerment for 1,000 widows. We are giving them coolers, soft drinks, money to buy ice blocks and umbrellas.
“It is a programme of 1,000 widows in which we are going to be partnering with Coca-Cola bottling company.
“We are doing these to support the government because we realised that government alone can not provide everything. That is why I want to call on Nigerians to come out and support our neighbours.
Speaking, the state Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, lauded the foundation chairman for promoting the party since three years he has left the government.
He posted promised that the APC under the leadership of Rauf Aregbesola would continue to provide infrastructure and other programmes that would improve standard of living of people of the state.
One of the beneficiary, Mrs. Ajoke Agunbiade, who said she became a widow about six years ago, described the gesture as “timely and beneficial”.
