Foundation makes case for child development

Verve Megaminds Network (VMN) and Extended Love Foundation, a youth-led organisation has called for a safe society for child development while delivering quality community service.

The  founder of VMN and Secretary of Extended Love Foundation, Joseph Augustine also said children needs to be engaged with learning at home before and after reopening of school.

He further said children can have access to quality education without going far from home.

Extended Love project, VMN through her annual program recently demonstrated capacity to contribute to societal development, having successfully implemented six projects, which has positively impacted over 3,000 people directly and over 8,000 indirectly.

In response to the COVID-19, the team also implemented a project called  MESA (Making Education Sustainable and Accessible) to promote access to quality education for children in communities through volunteering to teach them and providing writing materials for them. 500 children are to benefit from this project from November 1st to 30th.

He identified intermittent online learning is not effective for children already behind, and radio learning cannot replace classroom learning as it is intended to supplement the knowledge that children already posses.

He said the network through her extended love initiative has mobilize 50 young people across 3 states in Nigeria (Kaduna, Kogi and Abuja (FCT) who will volunteer to teach children in their neighbourhood on reading, numeracy, basic hygiene and climate change.

“Observing COVID-19 safety measures, each volunteer (neighbourhood Champion) will teach a maximum number of 10 children with strict adherence to all safety measures. Children (beneficiaries) will be selected from within the neighborhood of volunteers.

“A curriculum has been carefully designed by a team of child education experts to be used during the project.

The impact of this initiative will be felt by vulnerable children especially in remote communities in Nigeria, it will reduce education burdens on parents,” he said .
