FUGUS admits 1,666 students this year – VC

The Federal University Gusau in Zamfara state  has admitted a total of 1,666 students to study degree courses into various field of studies for the 2016/2017 academic session.
This was made known by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Magaji Garba, at the 3rd matriculation ceremony held at the permanent site of the University in Gusau the Zamfara state.
Garba said there was an increase number of newly admitted students compare to last year due to newly approved quota granted the university this year.

According to him, as part of effort to ensure sustainable development, the university has secured approval from the National Universities Commission to establish faculty of Mining Engineering and Institute of   Mining Engineering.

He further stated that the university was collaborating with the National Space Research and Development Agency in order to cover space science, geological sciences, mining engineering, atmospheric physics and other related areas.
Garba then called on the new intake to always remain law abiding with the guiding principles governing the university as well as to shun any forms of social biases for them to attain their determined objective.

On health care delivery to staff and students, Garba said already the institution had moved to its newly completed 25-bed hospital under the health service department, adding that the university had secured accreditation with the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure both staff and students were medically catered for when necessary.
The VC equally thumbed Zamfara state government paying land owners their compensations, stressing that the university would now have ample opportunity to run its programmes without facing any inconveniences from those who owned the land before.
