Former Deputy National Chairman, North west, of Miyatti Allah Kautal-Hore, Alhaji Ya’u Haruna Malammadori, has lamented that the Fulanis are the worst neglected, most persecuted group in Nigeria, saying that they are only recognised during election, polio immunisation or whenever they commit crime.
Malammadori stated this in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital over the
weekend while briefing newsmen on recent atrocities committed against herdsmen in some states in Nigeria.
“Whenever a herdsman commits a crime, that is when he would be made to
understand the existence of a constituted authority, they have no access to
all the rights and privileges enjoyed by others Nigerians,” Malammadori stated.
“We have been neglected, persecuted, maimed and killed without any measure being taken by the authority to serve as a deterrent to others. When herdsmen commit a crime, it’s news, but when a crime is committed against herdsmen, it’s never an issue,” he further lamented.
He said, if conventional media could be fair and balanced by reporting the exact happenings in our immediate environment, global public opinion might have prevented most of the carnages in the country.
Madori also decried that, President Muhammadu Buhari chose to remain
mute over the recent atrocities committed on innocent Fulani women and
children, “may be because he doesn’t want to be quoted out of context while we are at the receiving end,” he stated.
He explained that, preparations were on top gear to write to the
authorities at the top, including Mr. President to educate some state
governors on the issue of grazing in range, as well as the exclusive, concurrent and residual powers contained in the 1999 constitution.
