Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Yobe state chapter, has conferred the award of excellence on Governor Ibrahim Gaidamin recognition of his declaration of a state of emergency on health, which led to major transformation in the sector in the state.
In his remarks, chairman of NMA Yobe state, Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, said there was no doubt that the Gaidam administration has done excellent job in transforming the state health sector by putting structures, equipment and manpower in place in the effort to bring health delivery services to the door steps of the ordinary man in the state.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa, in his key note address, said “The commitment of Ibrahim Gaidam has turned the state health sector around and has made the state provide quality health service delivery, general improvement and well being of Yobeans.
“The support of medical equipment by World Medical Relief and Supply overseas is going to bridge a wide gap as the equipment worth N2 billion would be coming to Yobe state to boost the health sector,” he said.
Gaidam, while acknowledging the award, said his administration had witnessed with satisfaction the level of improvement in the health sector, noting that the state of emergency on the sector had helped to reshape the sector for good.
“I therefore urge our health workers to reciprocate what government has been doing by always red-dedicating themselves to selfless service in the discharge of their duties with all devotion,” he said.
In his good will message, the national president of NMA, Prof Mike Ogirima, represented by his vice, Dr. Adamu Hassan, commended the governor for giving the health sector the top most priority.
