Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has granted approval for the payment of workers’ November salary.
The directive, which has been carried out with some workers already getting their payment alerts before the federal allocation, is in apparent response to the presidential orders for state governors to pay civil servants their salaries before Christmas.
The governor has also directed for the payment of pensions for retired employees in the state. He has also ordered that ministries, departments and agencies be given their running costs or overheads for the month.
Blueprint learnt that, although this is routine in Yobe state under Gaidam administration, it demonstrates the continued commitment of the governor to workers’ welfare and his adherence to the values of transparency and accountability in governance.
“At a time when the state is emerging out of crippling Boko Haram crisis and rapidly rebuilding infrastructure and services, it is telling that Gaidam has never failed for once to pay government workers, even in times when federation account payments have not been made by the federal government to the state government,” a resident who spoke under anonymity told our reporter yesterday.
