Kano state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has donated 100,000 blankets for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno state.
The donation was made through Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, assuring that Kano would remain sympathetic to the plight of the state devastated by the menace of Boko Haram insurgency.
The distribution took place at Dalori IDP camp, Maiduguri, Friday, in the presence of Governor Shettima, his cabinet members, legislators and other dignitaries.
Also as part of interventions to the Borno IDPs was the sum of N20 million help, according to the governor, in providing some materials to them.
“We are in Maiduguri with a special message from our state, a message of sympathy for the people of Borno state. We are all praying for a lasting peace in the land. As we are witnessing the dying period of insurgency,” he said.
Ganduje commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his relentless effort in curtailing the menace of Boko Haram in the country, especially in the NorTheast.
He reminded that when Buhari came in after his inauguration, he went visiting neighboring nations of Chad, Niger and Cameroun soliciting for their cooperation in checking insurgency across the sub-region.
“When he showed seriousness in the fight against insurgency, he got the support of development partners across the globe. We are all living witnesses that President Buhari has given the needed attention in fighting the menace,” he said.
On the 100 orphans that were taken from some IDP camps from Borno to school in Kano few years back, Ganduje said the boys had become Kano
citizens,” adding: “We will continue to take care of them because they are our children.”
Governor Shettima, in his remarks, commended Kano state government for the kind gesture, expressing gratitude for the gesture of the Kano government.
“When Kano state government informed us about their plan to take 100 orphans for school, all of us here were overwhelmed. And here we are now with His Excellency, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, revealing that his government will soon take another round of 100 children for the same purpose,” he added.
