Gbayi cultural day has unique appeal – Director

The Gbagyi indigenes in Diko, a neighbouring community with the Federal Capital Territory and love to go back to their cultural root where the show of love, and communal living is the norm as the Gbagyiza is known for modest dressing, pot making and mat weaving.
Chairman of the Gbaji day, Graham Nuhu who is a Director in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, made this known during the seventh Diko Cultural Day celebration in Diko.
It was organized by Diko Community Development Association (DCDA).
He said the Gbagyiza is always striving to do good to their fellow man as he or she believes in life hereafter and that there is a reward for doing good, he said.
Nuhu noted that something has to be done to revive the practice as the attributes of the culture is fast disappearing, adding that it is a commendable step in the right direct by the organizers.
Representative of the Diko traditional council, Ciroman Diko, Chief Henry Sakoma stated that the cultural celebration started in the year 1970 with the aim of portraying the Diko indigent culture and its preservation.
He revealed that culture is a man’s way of life as that of the Gbagyiza is unique.
He called on the organizers to revive the cultural artifact through a museum to remind the younger generation of history.
Chairman, Diko Community Development Association (DCDA) Dr.
Solomon Zakwoi said the people of Diko understand the firm link between culture and development as no human society can truly develop without building its cultural foundation.
Zakwoi noted that the Association has made provision for a borehole to ease the perennial water problem in the community thereby generating revenue for the association.
He also commended the governor and other spirited Diko indigent for their contributions in the development of the community.
He said the Association made concerted efforts in the development of the community, but not with its challenges and as such called on stakeholders within and outside the community to help improve the living conditions through road and drainage constructions and equipping of the health care centers and improving the farm yield of farmers in the community.
Diko community is a district in Gurara local government with over 10 communities under its jurisdiction.
