GBV: CLEEN foundation takes campaign to FCT schools

CLEEN foundation in a bid to mark 16 days of awareness on gender-based violence took awareness campaigns to Secondary and Primary schools in Abuja in an initiative called “catch them young.”

The Program Director of CLEEN, Ruth Olofin, during the campaign urged the federal government to intensify efforts and provide critical structures to bring an end to cases of sexual and gender-based violence in the country.

The Program Director of CLEEN, Ruth Olofin said the campaign is to sensitize young students with their rights and educate them on warning signs to prevent being a victim of gender abuse or violence.

She said the government needs to do more in protecting the vulnerable in the society adding that the existing mechanisms should also be put in place in curbing the menace.

According to her “When a case of gender violence is reported to the police, we normally challenge prosecution because adequate investigation is not carried out.

“That is why at the end you see culprits of rape walking free around which is not suppose to be so ,”she said.

In her remark, the founder of Mother of Good Council Initiatives, Mrs Doris Onyeneke charged male participants to be gender sensitive and shun acts that would demean their female counterparts saying it is not their choice to be females.

She further said females have to right to be protected from all forms of violence and have to right to education amongst others.

She also said women also have the right to their body and has the right to say No when she is sexually abused .
