Ginger association leadership: ‘Azziz fighting lost battle’

New executive members of the National Ginger Association of Nigeria (NGAN) have called on government, at all levels, and members of the association to disregard claims by the dissolved interim leaders of continued steering of the affairs of the association.

The new president, Dr. Florence Edwards, made the call while reacting to media reports credited to Senator Haruna Zego Azziz in which he described the new leadership of the association as “fake” and as such be ignored.

Edwards, who addressed newsmen on the matter during a general meeting of the association in Kagarko local government at the weekend, said members passed a vote of no confidence on the dissolved appointed interim national leadership for its failure to live up to expectation, amongst other issues.

Presenting the original certificate of incorporation of the National Ginger Association of Nigeria, copy of the constitution and seal of the association to the new president of NGAN, the former secretary-general of the association, now the treasurer and board member, Squadron Nuhu B. Daudu (rtd) acknowledged the fact that the former executives over stayed their tenure.
According to him, there is no faction in the association as his organisation Macedonia Ginger Farmers Cooperative society (MAGFACOS), an international vanguard for the Ginger value change in Nigeria, was given the mandate by the Regional Director, North-west zone, Dr. N.Y Leo, to organise the stakeholders in the ginger industry in the value chain.
He said with only one month in office, a lot of things had been put in place under the leadership of Edwards, especially the nationwide registration of ginger farmers, businessmen and women.
