Global Handwashing Day: Group task Nigerians on sanitation, hygiene

In celebration of the 2019 Handwashing Day marked every October 15, with the theme ‘Clean Hands for All’, an international organisation Reckitt Benckiser (RB), makers of Dettol antibacterial products, has tasked Nigerians on cleanliness and good hygiene.

The organisation made the plea Tuesday in Abuja during an event organised by the Ministry of Water Resources, in collaboration with official partners, which had in attendance healthcare professionals, school administrators and pupils, representatives of different government ministries and Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu in attendance.

Addressing newsmen at the event, the Marketing Director of RB West Africa, Mr. Syed Tanzim Rezwan, said that the organisation is poised to contribute its quota in order to achieve a cleaner and healthier Nigeria.

Rezwan said that, in the past seven years, RB Nigeria, through its Dettol brand, has already carried out a number of programs committed to tackling health and hygiene issues, especially the School Hygiene Program, through which RB has educated over seven million children on proper hand hygiene habits.

He revealed that the ultimate goal of the brand is to show that, regardless of age, ethnicity or socio-economical status, everyone can stay happier and healthier just by cultivating the simple habit of thorough hand washing.

He said: “Dettol understands the importance of good hygiene and sanitation in the lives of Nigerians. The Clean Naija Initiative was developed as an integrated multi-level campaign with the aim of creating awareness, education and driving behavioural change to achieve a cleaner and healthier Nigeria.

“RB Nigeria, through its Dettol brand, already has  a number of programs committed to tackling some of these issues. These includes the School Hygiene Program, through which RB has educated over seven million children on proper hand hygiene habits over the past 7 years. Also, with the New Mum’s Program, RB has educated over five million pregnant and new mothers on hygienic practices to protect them during the pre- and post- phases of their pregnancies.”
