Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to go beyond the sack of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, and the former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke.
The cleric made the call yesterday in Abuja at the bicentenary (200th) anniversary of the birth of the Founder of Baha’i faith, Baha’u’llah, organised by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Nigeria in Abuja.
Onaiyekan, apparently asking for the prosecution of the sacked officials, said not going beyond their sacks would make other people susceptible to temptation of corruption, knowing they would only be removed from office after stealing.
“Nigerians should be patient with the government and President Buhari on this matter. Also, there should be further actions beyond their sacks.
“If nothing is done after that others may think what could be meted to them as punishment for stealing millions is only sack. They should also be made to refund the stolen monies if they are found guilty and maybe we can forgive them,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to see the merits in the live and teachings of the late Baha’u’llah on religious tolerance.
On his part, Chairman of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Nigeria and former FCT Commissioner of Police, Barr Lawrence Alobi, said God sent prophets to guide mankind to success and save them from errors.
According to him, Baha’u’llah, who was born in November 1817 in the present-day Iran is an evidence.
