Go forth and conquer, ex-Sports Minister charges Super Falcons, Eagles

Former Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung has urged the Super Eagles to target gold as they stage a comeback at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Ahead of their first game against Burundi on Saturday, the immediate past Minister of Sports said millions of Nigerians are expecting the team to live up to its pre-tournament hype.

Barrister Dalung said having missed out in the last two editions of the CAF AFCON, the Super Eagles are condemned to live up to their reckoning as a power house in African football.

“The Super Eagles have missed out unexpectedly of the Cup of Nations in the last two editions and so, coming back in 2019 is a welcome development worthy of celebration.

“We need to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the financial intervention at critical times during their qualifiers and it is very important that the team wins the title for him”.

Barrister Dalung said that the Super Eagles have the players and the skills to mount a serious title challenge at the apex football championship in Africa.

Meanwhile, Barrister Dalung has also taken time out to congratulate the Super Falcons for booking a ticket to the quarter finals of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“The Super Falcons’ qualification is miraculous and for us as Nigerians, we cherish such situations as a football loving nation.

“The game against Germany can go the way of the Super Falcons if they stay resilient and determined”.

Dalung said mounting a serious title challenge is possible with the Super Falcons starting with a win against Germany.

“We know that  Germany are very strong and highly rated in women’s football but as Nigerians, we won’t give up before the fight. Nigerians are proud of you and we look forward to a good match on Saturday,” Dalung said.
