Gold coast exploits wiped away Glasgow tears –Oborududu

Nigerian Wrestler, Blessing Oborududu who won Gold medal at the just concluded Commonwealth Games has disclosed that the feat she achieved at Gold Coast has compensated her after not-too-impressive outing during 2014 Games in Glasgow.

Oborodudu who spoke exclusively to Blueprint weekend Sports was full of excitement shortly after she and her teammates touched down Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport, Abuja earlier this week.

Her exact words; “I feel excited and I give God all the glory for making my dreams come true at the Commonwealth Games. I went out to wrestle without fear or tension and won gold in the 68kg. I hope this competition will give me more opportunities to win more in the future. I am preparing for the World Championship coming up in September. We received our prize money there in Australia.

“ I will rest for one or two weeks and continue my training. I went to the African Championship and I did very well, but I was disappointed in the last Commonwealth Games in 2014 because a lot was expected from me, but I got a bronze medal instead of the gold that was my target. However, I was determined this time and God granted my heart desire by giving me the gold medal.

“At times you encounter unforeseen circumstances in a competition, due to lack of preparations. In wrestling we need to go for more tournaments to know what our opponents are doing and not only watching videos. For instance, I went for the last championship in December in South Africa and I lost to an Indian. I met an Indian in the semi final and beat him 10-0, so for you to meet those you think are better than you, you will garner more experience to wrestle with them.

The country’s wrestling team saved Nigeria worse off performance after they single-handedly won three Gold and medals
