Gombe Chief of Staff to Goje: It’s God that gives power

The Chief of Staff in the Gombe state Government House, Alhaji Ahmed Yayari, has described the statement credited to the immediate past governor of the state as “unfortunate,” saying that he “has arrogated to himself divine power of giving people powers rather than God.”

Yayari was reacting to comments credited to Goje that he regretted supporting Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo in 2011.
Goje had reportedly told supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC)
during last weekend’s local government congresses in Yamaltu-Deba that he was publicly apologising to the people of the state for supporting Governor Dankwambo in 2011.

But Yayari, speaking for the Government yesterday, said Goje was just making unnecessary propaganda that would take him nowhere “as he is known to claim to arrogate to himself the powers that only God, the creator has.”
He said: “Goje tried all his best to see his son in-law succeed him to no avail. He was forced succumb to the people’s choice and what God
had destined to happen.”

“This is very different from the victories Goje had in 2003 and 2007 where there were litigations. It is also a known fact that Goje gained support for his administration which we were part of through coercion.
“Dankwambo has achieved a lot in infrastructural development and education, empowerment and agriculture.
These are areas which Goje is very much afraid of and they intimidate him whenever he comes and sees
them. So, we are waiting to see the magic that will happen in 2015 where he has promised to enthrone a new government.”
