Gombe to construct new NYSC orientation camp

Gombe state government is to build a new permanent orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Dojo community of Kwami local government area of the state. The state governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, disclosed this while speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to the state yesterday. He said that the construction would commence immediately to facilitate a conducive atmosphere for subsequent orientation courses in the state.

“My administration places the needs of the scheme on top of its priorities,” he said The governor, therefore, urged the corps members to respect every camp official, bearing in mind that respect begets respect. Also speaking, the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board and Head of the Civil Service of the State, Alhaji Adamu Haruna, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Duties, Alhaji Yakubu Abba Bajoga, said the introduction of the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme into the course content of the orientation exercise and its sustainability for the past six years, was a plus to the scheme. Earlier, Gombe state NYSC coordinator, Mr. David Pwanidi Markson, said out of over 2,500 corps members posted to the state, only 1,624 registered for the 2018 Batch ‘A’ service year, comprising of 863 males and 761 females.

He therefore called on them to be beware of negative behaviours such as violence, cult membership, indiscipline and bigotry as the NYSC management frowns at these acts and will punish anyone found wanting in accordance to the provision of its bylaws.

Deploys 2, 207 corps members to Bauchi The National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has deployed 2, 207 corps members of its 2018 Batch ‘A’ segment for one year compulsory national service in Bauchi state. State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Afolyan James, disclosed this yesterday during the swearing in ceremony of the corps members held at NYSC camp Wailo, Ganjuwa local government area of the state.

He explained that at the close of registration, a total of 2, 207 youths comprising 1, 126 males and 1, 081 females were registered. The NYSC coordinator, who said camp activities would commence in earnest after the swearing in, urged the corps members to participate fully in the series of orientation trainings at the camp such as drills, citizenship and leadership, sports and skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development among others.

Also speaking, the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, represented by the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports, Ibrahim Madaki Saleh, asserted that NYSC remained a vibrant scheme in the nation that works towards unity and development of the country, charging the youth to implement all the cardinal programmes of the scheme during the service year so as to accomplish the set objectives. “Before your arrival, adequate preparations have been made to ensure that you are comfortable so that you can regard Bauchi state as your home. On this note, I want to assure you of my administration’s commitment to ensuring your welfare and security at all times,” the governor assured.
