Gombe emir to enroll 500 children out-of- school children in September

In effort to improve the education sector in the Gombe state, the Shehu Usman Abubakar Foundation funded by the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakr  iii has promised to enroll 500 orphans and vulnerable children in school in September.

The Emir stated this in Gombe on Saturday when he received 100 undergraduates who were advocating for child enrollment in school as part of activity to commemorate the International Day of African Child.

The day was celebrated June 16 annually organised by the Gombe state Primary Education Board in collaboration with High Level Women Advocacy, (HILWA) in support by UNICEF Bauchi field office.

“I have passion for Education because is the bedrock of any meaningful development as traditional ruler my position has to do with community and I will continue to do my best in the development of education,” he said.

He said some private schools in the state were identified and they would be given instructional materials as part of his commitment in education.

In his speech earlier, speaker of National Youth Parliament Malam Mubarak Mijin-yawa said they were at the palace to advocate for child enrolment in school.

He said in spite the effort done by government and International Organizations, the rate of school drop-out in Gombe is alarming.

“We are here to seek for your support, because you are traditional leader and a policy maker and we know you have done in the area of education and we are sure you will continue to do it ,”he said.
